Overview

This is the recommended tour if you have a full day to spend in Takahashi and Kurashiki in Okayama pref. Your guide will help you navigate the area to go up to the Castle of Bicchu Matsuyama on the top of the mountain including a round trip of almost two hours between the nearest bus stop to the Castle and go to a historical quarter Kurashiki.

Meeting place

If you have a plan to use the Shinkansen bullet train, please get off at the Okayama JR station then transfer to a local train to the Kurashiki station. The guide will meet you at the ticket gate with a banner written your name on.

    Field trip to Bitchu Matsuyamajo Castle

    After arriving to Bitchu Takahashi JR station, you head for Bitchu Matsuyamajo castle. Bitchu Matsuyamajo Castle is located on Mt. Garyu at 430 meters above sea level in Takahashi city about 50 kilos north west of Okayama city, making it the highest mountain castle in Japan.
    The ruins of the castle, the donjon, the turrets and a section of the surrounding mud wall have been designated as important cultural properties. Mt. Garyu is designated as a national forest so you can enjoy landscape on the way to the Castle

    Strolling around Kurashiki historical quarter

    When you come to Kurashiki Bikan Historical quarter, you might feel like you go back 400 years.
    You may be astonished by the townscape lined with white-walled traditional houses along the banks of the Kurashiki River. This area is awarded 2 stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan
