America Mura is lined with thrift-shopping stores making it the perfect place for lovers of vintage fashion and antique items. For lunch be sure to head to Kuromon Ichiba Market. Here you can try a variety of gourmet seafood from Osaka which are a speciality in this area.
America Mura is a trendy shopping and fashion area just west of Shinsaibashi that has been a mecca for the youth of Osaka since the 80s. The name "America Mura" (literally "America Town") is derived from when people started to sell imported American goods such as vintage clothes and records. It has since become a place for the youth of Osaka to get together and express their unique fashion senses and art etc, with several bars and cafes also popular within the area.
Dotonbori Street is a popular shopping area in Osaka known for its bustling atmosphere and its many neon lights at night, including the famous Glico man, a symbol of Osaka. The Dotonbori arcade is perfect for shopping, dining and entertainment. It's not that you can't find the things here anywhere else, it's just that you can't find them condensed in such a lively and packed space anywhere else. It's certainly a distinctively Osaka experience you shouldn't miss out on, unless you really hate crowds.
Kuromon Ichiba Market is a long running (190 years!) local market with around 150 bustling shops with lots of haggling, laughter, and non-stop human interaction surrounding the best fresh fish, vegetables and meat available. With increasing attention from foreign tourists, lots of shops have started serving cooked food, Also, you can get a taste then and there of sashimi, grilled fish, and everything else this historical market has to offer!
