This workshop is recommended if you are interested in Japanese culture, especially the food and art.
In this workshop, you'll learn, make, and eat "nerikiri", the Japanese sweet. With these theory and practice, I hope you will deepen and widen your understandings on Japanese culture.
【Lecture part】(0.5 hour) Before we make and eat, I'll have a brief talk on "nerikiri"; outline as one category of wagashi or Japanese sweets, the short history to have become "the quintessence of Japanese art and culture", and some more attractive points to enjoy the confectionary.
【Making part】(about 1.5 hour). In this part you can make three nerikiris by your self(the design and technique will vary depending on the season you enjoy). I'll give you demonstration explaining the traditional technique and design that are used in the works. ※the dough is already prepared so you just enjoy and focus on the artistic process.
【table-styled tea ceremony part】(0.5 hour). Choosing one nerikiri out of the three you made, we'll have a tea ceremony on table. I'll tell you the basic rules to show that you have good etiquette and appreciation for the ancient tradition. You don't have to keep the Seiza position, so just sit and relax to feel the "omotenashi" and eat to enjoy the perfect combination of sweetness and bitterness of Matcha.
I really wish you all can enjoy the tour so please contact me if you have any requests or questions! I'm really looking forward to seeing you soon!
If you have difficulty in using buses, I can change the meeting point to a train station nearby.
The tour fee does not include transport expenses. The starting time and itinerary can be customized. (You can add options such as Kimono experience or Photography tour at extra cost. Ask me for details.)
