Welcome to Osaka! Are you looking for an off the beaten path-experience while you are visiting Japan?
This is a day trip tour with a local guide to visit a beautiful Japanese mountain village known for its pottery making, traditional townscape, beautiful scenery of nature, and delicious food!
This is especially perfect for those friends who are hoping to meet Japanese craftsmen or looking for some pottery to bring home as souvenirs.
( About Tamba Sasayama )
Tamba Sasayama is a beautiful town where you can see traditional rural scenery because it is surrounded by mountains. It is located about 70 km away from Osaka city taking about one hour train trip.
( Transportation method )
Transportation method is very limited in the mountain village.
So I will recommend to charter a private car and driver, or rent a bike to explore the village!
Please note that the tour price does not include transportation fees. Please review the description about the transportation costs and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Your guide will meet you at your hotel lobby in Osaka city. If you are staying at outside of Osaka city, please contact your guide and we will arrange a meeting location.
The highlight of this trip is definitely the beautiful scenery of the mountains and townscape. Spring, we will stroll under cherry blossoms blooming along the local river. Summer, we enjoy the greenness of rice growing in the fields under the sunlight. Needless to say, the autumn foliage is beautiful. We will see the mountain slopes turning red and yellow. Finally winter, we will see the mountains sleeping silently under a layer of snow.
This museum is one of the largest ceramic art museums in Japan, exhibiting domestic and international ceramics collected based on different themes each season. The most significant collection is the local folk art called Tamba-yaki. Tamba-yaki developed around the 12th century as daily necessities, such as water bottles, big jars and bowls. From the 17th century onwards, it developed into a luxury item decorated with special techniques. Despite being a high quality work of art, Tamba-yaki has a warm and gentle appearance that makes you want to hold it in your hands every day as a daily necessity.
Don't you underestimate the quality of dining just because it is away from the city. Delicious food is the main reason why I bring you to Tamba Sasayama. Please let me know if you have any special dietary request such as vegetarian or food allergies. I will propose some delicious recommendations accordingly.
There are countless small pottery shops dotting the valley surrounded by mountains. Many of them are potteries with a history of several hundred years that have been passed down from generation to generation, and each one produces works with different styles and characters.
