Ise・Shima

Ise Shima is an attractive region in the west of Mie Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean. Its main city, Ise, is most well-known for being the location of the Ise Jingu Shrine, the most important Japanese Shinto shrine which is devoted to the sun goddess, Amaterasu Omikami. Ise Shima received international attention for hosting the G7 Ise-Shima Summit in 2016, which threw a spotlight on the region's natural beauty and history. A local delicacy is the Ise spiny lobster and the area is also famous for pearl fishing. Ise Shima includes countless small islands off the coast that more adventurous travelers might find interesting to explore.
