Chinoike Jigoku Blood Pond Hell is just one of the "jigoku" (hell), which are steaming hot spring sources, way too hot to bathe in located in perhaps the most famous and popular hot spring districts in Japan in Beppu city, Oita prefecture. As the name suggests, this particular "jigoku" is red in color, making it look like a pool of boiling hot blood, as it bubbles and steams! At 78℃, this "jigoku" get its color due to the minerals and iron in the rocks it lays in, and through the process of iron oxidation.
