Chiwata Keikoku Gorge

Beautiful Scenery

Along the Chiwatagawa river in Nagasaki Prefecture follows the Chiwata Keikoku Gorge. Hirose Tanso, a late Edo-period scholar and poet, compared the shape of the gorge to a winding dragon and called the largest waterfall upstream 'dragon head source'. Since then the gorge has been known as a scenic area for nature lovers. It features a total of 48 waterfalls and deep pools, providing much for adventure travelers to explore.
