It was chosen as one of the venues for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, and in addition to it being a hub for sports fanatics, it is also known as one of Kumamoto's popular tourist attractions. Access from the city center is fairly easy, and visitors often stop by other sightseeing spots such as Kumamoto-jo Castle and Suizen-ji Joju-en, a beautiful Japanese teien garden, on their way to or from the stadium.
