Dedicated to the son of the ruling feudal lord at the time, and doubling as a mausoleum, Entsuin Temple in Miyagi Prefecture is something of an oddity for Japanese Buddhist temples. The ruling lord at the time, Date Masamune, had gained an interest in Christian technology and religion and was a patron of an expedition to the pope in Rome. This interest in Western civilization can be see reflected in a Western style rose garden and in Western designs on art in the mausoleum of Entsuin Temple. In addition to being of historical interest, the temple is also a great destination for travelers looking to clear their minds and focus on meditation.
