Only 15 minutes by car from Naha Airport, Fukushu-en Garden was constructed in 1992 as a celebration of the sister city relationship between Naha and Fuzhou, China. The garden is located in Kume, which functioned as a center for Chinese culture and learning during the Ryukyu Kingdom. The garden itself utilizes elements of traditional Chinese gardens and architecture, and it is made almost entirely of wood and stone from Fuzhou. Within the garden, a Chinese-style pavilion offers a stunning view from one of two high points, several bridges span a pond that is home to turtles and koi fish, and there is even a waterfall. There are also a number of sculptures, bells, and wood and stone inscriptions, as well as a variety of trees native to the Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan.
