Hasedera Temple in Kamakura City, Kanagawa, is an ancient temple with a long history. From the flowers of spring to the colorful foliage of autumn, the temple’s grounds are well known for their beautiful nature; however, the temple is a particularly popular destination for sightseeing during the rainy season when the hydrangeas come into bloom. In fact, it is known as one of the most famous spots for picturesque scenery in all of Kamakura. The temple grounds are also dotted with jizo, small Buddhist statues that are said to bring good luck, and visitors can find them hiding among the flowers.
There are also shakyo and shabushi sutra-copying experiences for those who want a more in-depth experience of Buddhism, no reservations required.
