The Heiwa-dori street that stretches about about two thirds mile (one kilometer) from Hitachi Station was opened after being reconstruction from damage sustained during the war, and it was named by the locals. It has been chosen as one of Japan's 100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots, and every year the blossoms of about 120 Yoshino cherry trees adorn the area. When they are in full bloom, visitors can experience the feeling of walking through a cherry blossom tunnel. Nighttime illuminations can also be enjoyed during this period.
