Taking a tour with the Horikawa Sightseeing Boat is a popular activity the castle town of Matsue. In Matsue, there exists an intricate hub of waterways flowing through the town, reaching out from the inner and outer moats surrounding Matsuejo Castle. Each ride takes about 50 minutes and is generally laid-back with a nostalgic view of Matsue and spots that you wouldn’t even have noticed if you were to travel around by foot. You can sit back and relax as the boat captain will narrate some details about the castle town’s history with some personal anecdotes thrown in. Note that the explanations are only offered in Japanese, but even if you do not understand them the boat tour is a great way to explore Matsue and take some nice pictures.
