The Ikoma Kogen Plateau, located in Kobayashi City, Miyazaki Prefecture, extends all the way to the base of the Kirishima Mountains and boasts an altitude of 550 meters. The plateau is famous for its sprawling flower beds, particularly its sea of cosmos. Over 1,000,000 cosmos plants of 17 different species grow here, and when they bloom in September and October the plateau is covered in shades of pink, red, and white. The area is home to more than just cosmos, however: in spring, visitors can enjoy fields of poppies, and summer brings countless rose mallow and scarlet sage. During your visit, make sure to also stop by the local café nearby famous for its delicious soft-serve ice cream.
