Boasting a height of 1,637 meters, Mt. Akita-Komagatake is the tallest mountain in Akita Prefecture. It is a very active volcano even now, and the topography of its summit is constantly changing. The mountain is also a treasure trove of alpine plants, said to be the best in northern Japan. The summit sports a magnificent landscape, with panoramic views of mountain ranges such as Mt. Chokai and Mt. Iwate as well as the shining lapis lazuli blue of Lake Tazawa.
