Nagoya Castle

Art & Architecture Beautiful Scenery Culture Experience History Insta-worthy

Nagoya Castle, also known as Meijo in Japanese, is one of the major castles in Japan. The original castle was completed in 1615, but much of it was destroyed during warfare. The castle standing today is a reconstruction built using historical records of the original for authenticity. Repairs were completed in 2018, and since then the castle has been open to the public.
Nagoya Castle is designated as a Special National Historic Site, and it was also the first castle to be designated as a National Treasure. Inside the main keep, Important Cultural Properties such as folding screens and historical documents are on display, allowing visitors to learn about Nagoya’s history. There are a number of other places of interest within the castle grounds as well, including tea houses, exhibit halls, historical storehouses, gardens, and more.
