Nihonmatsujo Castle, is one of the top 100 castles in Japan, being a rarity in the Tohoku region of Japan for its ruins to have stayed in the same place from the middle ages. At springtime around 1700 cherry blossom trees, and in the autumn you can enjoy the beautiful autumn leaves as well as the countrywide famous “Chrysanthemum doll exhibition” hosted there. There are also many onsen hot spring facilities in the area where you can soak away the aches and pains after a hard day of sightseeing! In October the Nihonmatsu Lantern Festival is held with the brightly lit lanterns lighting up the nights sky as they are paraded, a truly beautiful sight indeed.
