A large amount of Noboribetsu Onsen's many types of hot spring water originates in the spectacular Jigokudani Hell Valley. This area is a volcanic caldera created by the eruption of Mt. Hiyori. Hell Valley is a suitable name given the volcanic activity that can be found in this area, from sulfurous steam to hot steam vents.
