Senjojiki (Wakayama)

Beautiful Scenery

Senjojiki is a sloped, soft, white bedrock protruding from the Pacific Ocean. It's said that it was named Senjojiki because it is wide enough that 1,000 tatami mats could be laid out (sen (千) = thousand, jo (畳) = tatami mat, jiki (敷) = to lay out). Over the years, the rough waves that break onto the shore have eroded the area into the shape it is today. Walking on Senjojiki allows visitors to be close to the ocean, too. When visiting, be sure not to miss the sun sinking into the blue of the Pacific Ocean that spreads out ahead. Nearby, there are also restaurants and cafes to rest at while gazing out at the scenery.
