Towadako Lake, spanning Aomori and Akita prefectures, is a double caldera that was created by volcanic activity around 2000 years ago. It is the 12th largest in Japan, and the third deepest. Towada lake is enchanting, not only in the spring and autumn seasons with their changing leaves, but also in the winter. The spring leaves emerge between May and June, the autumn leaves start to turn in early October. The best time to come for seeing the leaves is in mid to late October.
