Wakayama Castle located in Wakayama prefecture is a large castle tower with three layers of chalk. It is located at the top of Mt. Torafusu, from where you can overlook the city area in all directions. In the stone walls of Wakayama Castle, green tuff (chlorite schist) quarried from Kishu was extensively used, which is typical of the Wakayama region. This construction choice has left Wakayama Castle with a very distinctive design. The castle is also a good place to learn about the historical significance of Wakayama, which, along with Mito and Owari, has left a lasting mark in history as one of the Three Houses of the Tokugawa.
