Yakushiji Temple was registered as a World Heritage site in 1998. The Yakushiji Temple is a temple with a history of 1,300 years, built by Emperor Tenmu as he prayed for the recovery of the empress from illness. The Buddha statue, praised by many as the most beautiful in the world, and the famous principal images called Yakushi Sanzon (Medicine Buddha Trinity), which have been in existence since its foundation, are a must-see. In addition, there is also a training hall for copying sutras which is open to visitors who want to try it.
