Zojoji Temple is a famous Buddhist temple in Tokyo, adjacent to Shiba Park. Zojoji Temple was built in 1393. The temple is famous for its Sangedatsu Gate (Gate of Threefold Enlightenment), selected as a national important cultural property, and its wooden, seated Amida Buddha statue, also selected as a tangible cultural property designated by Tokyo metropolis. The Tokugawa family, who maintained its power for 265 years, is buried in the temple grounds. Standing behind the temple, you might see the beautiful Tokyo Tower light up during the nighttime.
