Akita Akarenga Red Brick Folk Museum

Art & Architecture History

The Akarenga Red Brick Folk Museum in Akita City was opened by restoring the former Akita Bank main headquarters. The facility is composed of the red brick building, annex building, and storage room. The red brick building is considered a valuable piece of Western-style architecture from the Meiji period using the Renaissance style as a basis, and it has been selected as a National Important Cultural Property. Inside the red brick building there is a large atrium space in the Baroque style, and the ceiling is decorated with a beautiful plaster relief. Traditional crafts of Akita City are displayed in the old archive room, visitors can watch videos about the history and culture of Akita City in the old vault, and the building even has an extravagantly decorated former guest room. This museum is a place where visitors can interact with the history and culture of Akita while enjoying old Western-style architecture.
