The Inoh Tadataka Museum in Sawara City, Chiba Prefecture, is a museum where visitors can learn about the achievements and career of Inoh Tadataka, the Edo-period geographical surveyor who created the first accurate map of Japan. Tadataka began seriously studying astronomy and geography in his 50s, and he surveyed around the entire country until he was 71 years old. This museum houses exhibits of Tadataka's life in chronological order, several of the "Inozu" maps he created, surveying equipment he actually used, and more. Additionally, on the opposite side of the Onogawa River stands Tadataka's former residence. It is designated as a national historic site, and brewing industry shops, cookhouses, drawing rooms, and storehouses can still be seen there today.
