The JMSDF Kure Museum is a military museum in Hiroshima Prefecture. JMSDF stands for the Japan Maritime Self Defense Forces and this particular museum exhibits submarines and minesweepers. The main building has an iconic design it incorporates an actual submarine that you can walk around in into the building's design. The military has a difficult standing in Japan because Japan's post-war Constitution does not allow for a regular army that can attack other countries (Article 9) and the public is not well-informed about the work of the SDF. This is why the Self-Defense Forces try to promote understanding of their operations and their contributions to society through facilities like this. The city of Kure is home to a naval base which explains the choice of location.
