Saijo city in Hiroshima Prefecture is known as one of the top three sake brewing areas of Japan. It was most renowned for its long tradition of brewing and good water quality. If you are interested in visiting a sake brewery in this area, your best bet would be to go to the Saijo Sake Brewery Street. You can find multiple historic breweries along this street, including the famous Kamotsuru brewery. Many of the breweries in the area offer tours and sake tastings. However, if you are really interested in getting to try a huge variety of sake or nihonshu as it is called in Japanese, you should definitely check out the annual Saijo sake festival in October where you are able to sample hundreds of different varieties. Please note that the legal drinking age in Japan is 20 and you may need to provide a photo ID.
