Kibitsuhiko Jinja Shrine

Art & Architecture History

Kibitsuhiko Jinja Shrine is where Kibitsu Hiko no Mikoto, the model for the Momotaro folklore story is enshrined. The traditional shrinal architecture blended in with the deep vivid greenery of the trees and shrubs around make for quite the splendid almost majestic atmosphere and scenery. The main hall of the shrine is designated prefectural important cultural property. “Kibitsu no Nakayama” mountain where the shrine is found has been worshipped as god’s mountain from ancient times, a place where god descends and is known as a power spot. During the summer solstice, the sun can be seen rising up right in front of the torii gate to the shrine, giving it the name “Rising Sun Shrine”. At the shrine you can find cute little peach shaped lucky charms and fortune slips too so be sure to check it out!
