Kujukushima Island (Akita)

Beautiful Scenery

Approximately 200 years ago, an earthquake caused an upheaval of the ground, resulting in the unique view that you can see today of over 60 islands that appear to be floating in the countryside. The entire area is called Kujukushima (Ninety-nine Islands,) and it is a national natural monument. If you visit when the rice is ripe (autumn), you behold a scenery of islands that appear to be floating in a land of gold. If you stroll along the guided path, you can visit various islands. Additionally, there is an unbroken view over the landscape of Kujukushima from the observation deck at the roadside station "Nemu no Oka." The sixth floor of the observation tower offers a glass-sided 360-degree panoramic view so that you can see not just Kujukushima, but the Sea of Japan and Mount Chokai as well. We hope you enjoy having a stroll after you view the beautiful countryside scenery and the view over the Sea of Japan.
