The Mitake Valley or Mitake Gorge is a scenic area along the Tama River on the outskirts of Tokyo, Japan. It is easily reachable by train from Shinjuku station and provides a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo's city center. If you want to experience Japanese nature while in Tokyo, a day trip to the valley is highly recommended. Some great activities in Mitake include visits to breweries of sake, Japanese rice wine, picnics during warmer seasons, walks and hikes along the river, and sampling local cuisine. You can also access mountain trails for hiking such as Mt. Mitake (Mitakesan) if you take a taxi, bus or ropeway.
