Mt. Hakkai is located in the Minami Uonuma region of Niigata Prefecture, and its highest point, Nyudodake Peak, stands at 1,778 meters. The mountain boasts lush greenery and plenty of hiking trails to enjoy in summer, but when winter comes around it’s a popular place for skiing and snowboarding. It’s also known for its colorful foliage in autumn, and a lot of budding photographers visit to practice their skills.
While the mountain is a popular hiking destination, the path to the summit is a fairly advanced trek, and it takes about five hours to reach the top. However, for those who can’t or don’t want to make the hike, there is a ropeway that visitors can take up the mountain and enjoy the natural scenery along the ride.
