Nezu Jinja Shrine

History

Nezu Jinja Shrine is a historical Shinto shrine in Tokyo. Many of the shrine's buildings date from the early 18th century and are designated important cultural properties. It is considered one of the most beautiful shrines in Tokyo and it is also one of the oldest. The shrine architecture follows the style of the Nikko Toshogu shrine. So-called "torii gates" form a tunnel on the hill behind the main hall, and the shrine itself is surrounded by trees. A popular season to visit Nezu Shrine is in spring, when the azaleas on the grounds bloom.

WOW! This is an incredible site to visit when in Tokyo. Very similar to the famous lines of torii gates in Kyoto- Nezu Jinja Shrine is one of the only locations in Tokyo where you can walk through so many gates. Very much a highlight for me and great for getting a perfect picture! Not only does this site have torii gates but the shrine itself is gorgeous and surrounded by flowers. The location is quiet and I found it to be not very touristy compared to other shrines around Tokyo. I would highly recommend this site!
