"Onumanoukishima Floating Island" is a sightseeing spot which was designated as a scenic beauty spot in 1925. Its landscape of 60 floating islands on a lake is surrounded by forest vegetation and you can enjoy its mystical scenery. There is a trail around the lake, which takes about 30 minutes to go around, and there are many highlights such as Ukishimainari Shrine, Torii Sugi (big Japanese cedars form a torii gate) and Kasasagibashi, which is a pier, a cape with a stone lantern and a small island. People say that the name of the starting point of the trail, “Kasasagibashi,” originates in the ancient myth that magpies lined up their wings over the Milky Way when Hikoboshi and Orihime meet once a year on the night of the Tanabata festival (the star festival). Tradition has it that they are destined to be together as they cross the bridge together.
