Rokka no Mori
Beautiful Scenery
There is a sweets shop in Hokkaido called Rokkatei known for its lovely wrapping paper. Rokka no Mori was created with the hope of making a forest full of the flowers drawn on this wrapping paper. Within the vast park grounds of 100,000 square hectares, a variety of Hokkaido's wildflowers bloom. Among these, six kinds of flowers called the tokachi rokka are especially prominent. With the Asian fawn lilies at the beginning of spring and the royal blue gentians that bloom in fall, visitors can enjoy the colors of each of the four seasons here. The park is also dotted with ancient Croatian folk houses and galleries that were dismantled and reconstructed. At the Sakamoto Naoyuki Memorial Hall, visitors can observe the works of Sakamoto Naoyuki, the painter who drew the famed flower-patterned wrapping paper. This is a charming spot where one can feel art and nature in a relaxed atmosphere.
*Operating period: late April through mid-October
*Depending on the state of the plants, the operating period may be shortened by approximately one week.
