Takahata Fudoson Kongoji Temple in Hino City on the west side of Tokyo is one of the three major Fudo temples (temples enshrining Acala) in the Kanto region. It is also home to a number of historical structures and cultural properties.
It is said that the temple hall was originally built in the mountains during the early Heian period (794-1185), but was destroyed by a storm in 1335, so the chief priest of the time then relocated and rebuilt the temple in its current location. The temple hall is the oldest cultural property structure in Tokyo, and its Niomon Gate together with the Kongo Rikishi statues installed on either side of it have been designated as Important Cultural Properties.
The temple hosts a hydrangea festival in early summer and a foliage festival in autumn, both attracting many visitors and worshippers.
