Usa Jingu Shrine is a major Shinto shrine located in Oita prefecture and is also known as Usa Hachimangu Shrine also. Dedicated to the deified Emperor Ojin as Hachiman Shin (the tutelary god of warriors), Usa Jingu Shrine is said to be the first that enshrined him in the eighth century and is thus the head shrine in Japan for Hachiman Shin among the many other thousands of shrines that exist. Along with its significance as one of the most important Shinto shrines in the country, second only to Ise Jingu in Mie prefecture, Usa Jingu is a pleasant spot to visit all year around. There are a large lotus pond and the unique Kurehashi bridge which is a bridge with a roof! Along with this are small shrines located among the trees to the side and many winding paths around the complex which allow for a pleasant stroll.
