Yunishigawa Dam

Art & Architecture Beautiful Scenery

Yunishigawa Dam in Nikko City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is one of the four dams of Kinugawa River. The three other dams in the vicinity of upstream Kinugawa River are Kawamata Dam, Kawaji Dam, and Ikari Dam. Yunishigawa Dam was finished in 2012, making it the newest of the four dams, and it is characterized by its refined and simple appearance. Nearby, a number of onsen, including Yunishigawa Onsen, Kawaji Onsen, and Kinugawa Onsen, can also be found. This is one of the leading areas for onsen towns in Japan, and visiting one or more of the hot springs can make a good addition to a dam sightseeing plan.
Yunishigawa Dam is surrounded by bountiful nature, so just taking a leisurely stroll is sure to be soothing. However, we also recommend the Yunishigawa Duck Tour, which takes visitors around the dam lake on an amphibious bus. The bus runs on ground and water, so riders can enjoy a tour around the whole area without getting off. While touring, visitors might even be able to see wild deer and monkeys, and participation is sure to include the chance to see dam facilities that can't normally be experienced. Participation in the Yunishigawa Duck Tour requires advance reservations, so make sure to check the official website.
