Nikko

Nikko National Park and Nikko city, in Tochigi prefecture, are known throughout Japan for their natural beauty. Mountainous and quite chilly during the colder seasons, this is easily rectified by a visit to one of the area's numerous hot springs (onsen). Nikko is most famous for the lavishly decorated Nikko Toshogu Shrine. An area with lush forests, flowing streams and waterfalls, and striking mountains and gorges, there is no lack of natural beauty to be found in Nikko which makes it a popular getaway for Tokyo urbanites.
