Located a mere ten-minute walk from Matsuzaki Station, Encho-en Chinese Garden in Yurihama, Tottori Prefecture, is one of the largest Chinese-style gardens in Japan. It was constructed in 1996 as a symbol of the 10th anniversary of friendly relations between Tottori Prefecture and Heibei Province. Boasting an area of 10,000 square meters on the shore of Togo Lake, the garden was designed by an architect from Heibei, imitating imperial Chinese gardens and utilizing materials imported directly from China. There are 28 celebrated views inside the garden, including pavilions, bridges, gates, and even a miniature mountain. The buildings that surround the large pond are reminiscent of palaces, with yellow roof tiles and walls covered in paintings of five-clawed dragons.
Encho-en Chinese Garden is also known for the performances that take place there; each day, there are displays of fire-ring-leaping, traditional group acrobatics, jujitsu, and other events. Nearby the garden there is also a miniature Chinatown, complete with plenty of Chinese restaurants, so make sure to stop by during your visit.
