Kunugidairanotanada Terraced Paddy Field is a relatively new rice terrace which was carved out as a rice field in 1946. The beautiful scenery with more than 200 rice fields lining up was chosen as one of Japan’s ‘Top 100 Rice Terraces’. It is familiar to local residents with the name “the fan shaped rice field which the god dropped.” You can see the entire harmonious scenery of Tanada with surrounding mountains and a village from Ipponmatsu park which has a Himesayuri (pink lily) garden. It is characteristic of Tanada in the Tohoku area to hang cultivated rice plants on short poles and the bundle of rice plants hang on the “Inekui,” which is a short pole to be dried in the fall and has become a famous seasonal sight.
