The Kushiro City Zoo is one of the largest zoos in all of Hokkaido, and the expansive premises are home to over 50 species of animals. This zoo is particularly famous for its Hokkaido Zone. A wooden walkway was created using the wetlands that already existed in the area, allowing visitors to enjoy the untouched nature at close range. From this walkway, brown bears, cranes, natural treasure Blakiston's fish owls, and other animals native to Hokkaido can be observed. The zoo is also equipped with an open space that can be used for barbecues, making it a popular place for families to visit.
