Maizuru Koen Park

Beautiful Scenery

Maizuru Koen Park in Fukuoka City is located at the site of the Fukuoka Castle Ruins, once called Maizuru Castle, which was built by feudal lord Kuroda Nagamasa. It has connected sports grounds and facilities, and people often visit to use it as a place to rest and relax. Maizuru Koen Park is also famous for its cherry blossoms; from late March through early April, it boasts around 1,000 blooming cherry trees. In addition to the cherry blossoms in spring, there are plum blossoms in February as well as hydrangeas, wisteria, azaleas, and irises in June, so there is a changing landscape of flowers for visitors to enjoy throughout the year. Illuminations are also held at night with the Fukuoka Castle Ruins in the background.
The premises are also home to facilities where visitors can learn about the history of Fukuoka and Japan, such as the Fukuoka-jo Mukashi Tambokan, where visitors can experience Fukuoka Castle up close through old maps and model reproductions, and the Korokan Historical Museum, which was a reception hall built for diplomacy in the Heian period.
