Matsukawa River Cruises

Beautiful Scenery Culture Experience Entertainment

The Matsukawa River Cruises are leisure cruises that operate on Matsukawa River, which flows in front of Toyama-josho Koen Park. On these cruises, the boats’ captains will guide visitors on a trip overflowing with history and personality, traveling 1.2 kilometers over about 30 minutes (one-way). This area has been chosen as one of Japan's top 100 famous cherry blossom places, and around the beginning of April, both sides of the Matsukawa River boast the blooming of over 460 cherry trees, creating a tunnel of cherry blossoms. Even after the cherry blossom season ends, the gleaming green of summer followed by vibrant autumn colors can also be enjoyed here. In general, the boats don't operate during winter, excepting a special winter cruise on which passengers can sightsee in the snow. For details, please check the official website. The scenery that can be seen from the boats is fresh and different from that which can be seen from land, and when dusk arrives, the views around the river become even more stunning.
Additionally, at the teahouse Matsukawa Chaya, which is adjacent to the arrival and departure area, coffee, soft serve ice cream, shaved ice, amazake, dango, matcha sets, soba and udon noodles, and other kinds of sweets and foods are available for purchase. The Toyama-jo matcha parfaits and Toyama nomasu sushi sets (limited to Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays) are especially popular.
If you're looking to relax and spend some leisurely time along with the soothing flow of the river, this is a perfect place to visit.
