Toyama

Toyama

Toyama prefecture is an extremely lush part of Japan, with around 30% of its overall land designated as National Parkland by Japan's government. Visting sights like Kurobe Gorge, one of Japan's deepest V shaped gorges, inside a train car, you will be able to ride over many old railway bridges to enjoy an unparalleled view of Toyama's rich forests and down into the deep gorge. With other famous sights, like the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route and its 20 foot high snow walls, there is plenty of brilliant natural beauty to be found in Toyama. What you might not have known about is Toyama's ancient architecture, like the thatched-roof Gokayama Gassho styled houses, built to withstand heavy snow, which are still cared for and even lived in today; or Toyoma castle, with its reconstructed keep and traditional Japanese garden.
