Obijo Castle was a mountain castle in Miyazaki prefecture. It was built in the 15th century and prospered together with the castle town of Obi in the Edo period (1600-1867). This is why Obi city with its old streets and merchant houses came to be called the “Little Kyoto of Kyushu”. The keep of Obijo Castle does not remain today, but the great gate and the stone walls were reconstructed and make this an atmospheric spot. There is also a history museum on the site of the castle that exhibits historic artifacts.
