Sunmesse Nichinan is a park on the rolling hills that look out over the Nichinan Kaigan Coast, an area of picturesque scenery Miyazaki Prefecture is known for. Standing against the backdrop of the blue sea and sky are seven Moai statues which can be said to be the symbol of the park. These statues are recreations of seven Moai statues that lie on the inland areas of Easter Island, Ahu Akivi. Long ago, the Ahu Tongariki Moai on Easter Island were destroyed in tribal conflicts and earthquakes; starting in 1990, the Moai Restoration Committee formed in Japan spent about three years restoring 15 of these statues. Due to this cooperation, Easter Island allowed replicas of the Moai statues to be built for the first time in history.
There are a number of other ways to enjoy time spent in the park in addition to the Moai statues, such as geoglyphs and colorful objects, swings facing the sea, fields with cows and donkeys, and more. Those who climb further up the hill will find the Sky Tower and Sun Steps, from which visitors can enjoy the sight of the blue sea and horizon spreading out beneath them. At the highest point on the hill lies the Earth Appreciation Bell, which 17 different religious groups cooperated to create and was placed there as a symbol of peace.
