Seiuemon Pottery

Art & Architecture Culture Experience History

Seiuemon Pottery located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, is a pottery studio that aims to continue and protect the traditions of Shiragaki ware. Shiragaki ware is one of the six original ceramics of ancient Japan. It contributed to the development of Japanese earthenware and conveys the heart of the wabisabi aesthetic of simplicity and subdued refinement. At Seiuemon Pottery, earthenware production takes place using Shiragaki original soil and the natural texture of the kiln. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the charms of antique pottery through a collection of ancient Shiragaki ware at the attached museum.
