At the Tachineputa Museum in Aomori Prefecture, visitors can see the tachineputa floats that are actually used in a traditional event called the Tachineputa Festival which is held in Goshogawara City in early August each year. The tachineputa floats stand at about 23 meters high, which is around seven stories. The museum also holds immersive screenings of past festivals and live hayashi (traditional Japanese band) performances, allowing visitors to get a feel of the festival.
Inside the museum, there is also a workshop studio called Kawarahira at which patrons can try their hand at making tachineputa lanterns, a tachineputa float production factory, and a tachineputa float exhibit room, allowing visitors to not only experience the festival, but also learn about the production of tachineputa floats.
Additionally, in the observation lounge, visitors can enjoy local cuisine while gazing out at the Tsugaru Plains. Anyone planning a trip to Aomori should make sure to stop by this museum to experience the local culture, food, and scenery.
