Tsugaru Shamisen Hall

History

Tsugaru Shamisen Hall is a cultural facility in Kanagi-machi, Goshogawara City, which is said to be the place of origin of Tsugaru shamisen. In the observation room, Tsugaru shamisen as well as other types of Japanese shamisen and various stringed instruments from all over the world are on display, and visitors can listen to the sounds of each one. Other valuable information is also introduced here, including the history of Tsugaru shamisen, folk songs, and local performing arts. In addition, Tsugaru shamisen performances are held every day in the multi-purpose hall. There are also performance workshops available, and with an advance reservation visitors can participate in a lesson taught by a professional player. During Golden Week (a string of national holidays in late April to early May), the national competition for Tsugaru shamisen is held, which has become the base for protecting and sharing the knowledge of Tsugaru shamisen.
