The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku houses the offices of the local government and is next to the local assembly hall. Tokyo Metropolis is one of Japan's 47 prefectures and in terms of population and tax income it is by far the largest. Even for visitors who are not interested in the central role that Tokyo plays in Japan's politics, the government building is worth a visit. It's twin tower features two observation decks that are open to the public and free of charge. They feature some of the best views in Tokyo, arguably on par with Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Tower. On clear days, especially in winter, you may be able to see Mt. Fuji in the distance.
